How to setup eSIM on iPhone
A. Transfer a Physical SIM or eSIM from Your Old iPhone to an eSIM on Your New iPhone After Setup:
- On your new iPhone, open Settings > Mobile Data > Add Data Plan.
- Select the mobile data plan you wish to transfer from your previous iPhone. If no numbers appear, tap Transfer From Another iPhone. This process requires both devices to be running iOS 16 or later.
- Follow the on-screen instructions on your old iPhone to confirm the transfer. If prompted, tap Transfer or enter the verification code displayed on your new iPhone.
- Wait for the mobile plan to activate on your new iPhone. Your previous SIM will be deactivated once the transfer is complete.
- If a banner appears on your new iPhone saying Finish Setting Up Your Network Provider's Data Plan, tap it to be directed to your provider’s website for eSIM transfer. If you encounter issues, contact your network provider for assistance.
B. Convert a Physical SIM to an eSIM on the Same iPhone:
If your network provider supports this, you can switch your physical SIM to an eSIM on the same iPhone by following these steps:
- On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Mobile Data.
- Tap Convert to eSIM. If this option doesn’t appear, your network provider may not support it. Contact them for instructions on transferring your phone number from your physical SIM to an eSIM via eSIM Network Provider Activation or by scanning a QR code.
- Tap Convert Mobile Data Plan then Convert to eSIM.
- Wait for your eSIM to activate. Your physical SIM will be deactivated once the new plan is active.
- Remove your physical SIM card from your iPhone and restart the device.
C. Use a QR Code to Set Up eSIM:
To activate your eSIM using a QR code:
-
During Setup:
- When you reach the Set Up Mobile screen, tap Use QR Code.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation.
-
After Setup:
- Contact your network provider to receive a QR code.
- Open the Camera app and scan the QR code. Tap the Mobile Data Plan Detected notification.
- For iPhones with iOS 17.4 or later, if you receive the QR code via email or a webpage, press and hold the code and select Add eSIM.
- Tap Continue, then Add Mobile Data Plan.
- If prompted for a confirmation code, enter the code from your network provider.
D. Other eSIM Activation Methods:
Some providers may offer an alternative link instead of a QR code for eSIM activation.
- On iPhones running iOS 17.4 or later, tap the link to begin setting up your eSIM.
- When the Activate New eSIM notification appears, tap Allow and then Continue.
- If your provider supports app-based eSIM activation, download their app from the App Store and follow the provided instructions.

If required, you can manually input your eSIM information:
- Contact your network provider for the necessary details.
- Go to Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Data.
- Tap Add Mobile Data Plan.
- Select Enter Details Manually at the bottom of the screen.
